How High Friction Surfacing Works
High friction surface treatment (HFST) uses a resin binder to lock calcined bauxite aggregate onto a sound asphalt, concrete or bridge deck surface. Calcined bauxite is a very hard aggregate that holds its texture under traffic, so the treated surface keeps its grip over time.
The finish increases skid resistance, improves vehicle control in wet and dry conditions and helps shorten braking distances. It is applied over the existing road, so a high-risk site can be treated without full pavement replacement.
OzGrip HF: Engineered for Australian Roads
We install our own OzGrip HF system, a two-part cross-linked epoxy resin designed and engineered in Australia. Our high friction products exceed industry targets for skid resistance and texture testing. For asset owners, that means:
- Consistent grip at safety-critical locations
- A durable, long-lasting surface
- Reduced maintenance and fewer repeat treatments
- Better whole-of-life value from each project
Typical Adelaide Applications
We apply high friction anti-skid surfacing at:
- Intersection approaches and turning lanes
- Roundabouts
- Pedestrian and school crossings
- Curves and sharp bends, including hills roads
- Steep grades and descents
- Freeway and arterial ramps
- Bridge decks
- Crash-prone black spot sites
MAXIMUS on the Job
Our fully automated surfacing truck, MAXIMUS, was designed and built by GRM Systems for high friction and coloured surfacing. It applies binder and aggregate together under computer control for a consistent finish across the whole treated area. That consistency and speed help reduce how long Adelaide roads need to be occupied. See how MAXIMUS works.
Delivering Projects Across South Australia
As a national contractor, we mobilise crews and equipment to Adelaide and regional South Australia for each project. We manage the job end to end:
- Site inspection and scoping
- Surface preparation
- Supply and installation of OzGrip HF
- Traffic management for worker and road user safety (Traffic Control Services)
- Scheduling around peak traffic to minimise disruption
GRM Systems operates third-party assessed management systems for OH&S, quality and environment, and is a member of ARRB, PCCP, TMAA and RIAA.
